How can I take care of my Artwork?Looking after your art collection doesn't require extensive care. With regular maintenance and careful handling, you can keep your artworks looking their best and ensure their longevity. Positioning The placement of an artwork is important to consider as harsh environments can affect the condition and appearance of the piece over time. Sunlight Avoid placing artworks on paper in direct sunlight as colour bleaching will likely occur. Intense sunlight can also accelerate paper aging and eventually cause surface degradation. If you’ll be placing an artwork on paper in a sunlit spot, consider framing it using UV-protective glazing. Email manon@manon-design.com for more information on glazing options or if you’d like a quote. Even harder-wearing paints, such as oil and acrylic, can fade with excessive exposure to sunlight. Where possible try to hang your artwork on a shaded wall or in a location where it won’t be in the sun for long periods of time. Humidity High humidity, typically present in bathrooms and kitchens, can cause artworks on paper to warp (even those that are framed). If your artwork is situated in a humid place, make sure the room is well ventilated. Otherwise, we’d suggest steering clear of humid locations altogether. All artworks should be condition checked periodically, particularly the reverse, where the first signs of damp will most likely show. Cleaning Regular maintenance is the most effective way to keep your artworks looking spotless. Giving them a quick dust once a month ensures dirt doesn’t build up on their surfaces. For more targeted cleaning treatments, follow our tips below. Framed Artworks Use glass or plastic cleaner (depending on your frame’s glazing) with a microfibre cloth to gently wipe the surface. Avoid spraying any liquid directly onto the glazing - instead, dispense a small amount onto the cloth before polishing the glass or acrylic. We would not recommend cleaning with water as this can leave visible watermarks when dry. Remove dust from the frame’s moulding using a damp cloth. Should you wish, you can also apply clear furniture polish to wooden moulding to keep its finish in top condition. Exposed Artworks Artworks with an exposed surface, such as canvases or sculpture, are best kept clean with regular light dusting. Use a small soft-bristled brush (make-up brushes work well) to reach any crevices. We’d advise against using chemical cleaning products which could do more harm than good. If there’s a visible mark on your artwork, it’s often worth getting this removed by a professional art restorer. Handling When moving an artwork between locations, take care to package it securely with plenty of protective padding. Place a sheet of cardboard either side of a flat artwork, wrap in bubble wrap, and transport in a strong box. Don’t place items on top of the piece. If possible, avoid leaving prints or unstretched canvases rolled for long periods of time. This can damage the artwork and affect its ability to lie flat.

Original ArtworksAn original artwork suggests that the piece of art in question is unique. Whilst this is true when discussing paintings, drawings, and one-off or limited edition sculptures, it’s not necessarily the case when it comes to prints. Original Prints vs. Reproductions A reproduction is a print that has been produced from a digital copy of an original artwork. Vice versa, an original print is not a copy of an existing artwork. There are many types of prints that are produced manually by the artist that are originals in their own right, including (but not limited to) screenprints, lithographs and etchings. The templates used during manual printing processes are destroyed immediately after the edition number has been reached. Unlike digitally produced prints, commonly referred to as giclées, handmade prints tend to be higher in price due to their labour-intensive and highly intricate process. It’s important to note that some limited edition prints can also be reproductions if they are a replica of an original artwork. Even if the artist has signed, numbered or painted over the reproduction, it would still not be considered an original.

CustomsWe have a global community of both artists and collectors. For artworks being shipped internationally, you may need to pay customs and/or import fees in order for the work to be released for delivery. Customs duties and import fees aren’t included at the checkout, as they’re set by the artwork’s destination country and are charged directly by the country’s customs office. In most cases, either the customs office or the courier will be in touch with you if any fees are due. We’ll keep an eye on your tracking too, so we're able to help with customs if needed. It’s worth noting that in the case of returns, any customs or import charges you’ve paid are non-refundable.

PackagingAll of our artworks are packaged securely in appropriate packaging. This can vary depending on the type of artwork you have purchased. Unframed Limited Edition Prints and Artworks on Paper Limited edition prints and original artworks on paper are typically packaged and shipped in one of two ways: Rolled inside a heavy-duty art tube. We advise our artists to ship the artwork rolled with a sheet of acid-free paper to protect it. Flat-packed. This means the work is shipped flat, sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard or thin MDF board. The artwork would normally be protected with additional sheets of acid-free paper. Unstretched Canvases Unstretched canvases are usually shipped rolled in a heavy-duty art tube. This keeps shipping costs low, particularly when shipping internationally. If you’d like your canvas to arrive with you ready to hang, you can have it stretched with us. Stretched Canvases and Framed Works Bulkier artworks, such as stretched canvases and framed artworks, are typically shipped in either a heavy-duty cardboard box or a wooden crate, depending on their destination. Before being placed in either, cardboard corners are placed on the artwork and then wrapped in layers of padding for additional protection in transit. For deliveries within Monaco of artwork framed by us, our framers hand-deliver. In this case, the artwork is soft-packed only with cardboard corners and padding. No more is necessary, as the artwork is being expertly handled and delivered directly to your door.

Shipping PricesAll shipping costs for unframed or framed artworks are calculated and charged by Manon Art. Shipping prices can vary depending on the artwork type, size and weight, or where Manon Art and your delivery address is in the world. Shipping charges due for your order are added at the checkout. If you’re having your artwork framed by us, an additional shipping fee will be added to your shipping total at the checkout. This is to cover the cost of shipping your framed artwork from our framing hub in Monaco to your delivery address. All shipping prices are charged at cost price for tracked shipment with reputable courier services. If you’re looking for a more bespoke shipping option, or you’re interested in having your artwork shipped insured, get in touch with one of the team at manon@manon-design.com and we can put a quote together for you.

Our Returns PolicyIf you’d like to return your artwork, please notify us within 14 days of receiving your order. We’ll arrange for a courier to collect the artwork and return it to the artist, with all return shipping costs covered by us. We’ll then refund your order (minus your original shipping cost), or give you the amount in store credit if you have your eye on another piece. Damaged artwork In the unlikely case that your artwork arrives with you damaged, we’d work with you and the artist to get this resolved. If you decide to return the damaged artwork, the same returns policy applies and we’d refund your original shipping costs too. How to return your artwork At the bottom of your order confirmation email, click the link provided to begin your return. We’ll be in touch to process your return shortly after receiving your request. Alternatively, you can reply to any email you’ve received from our Operations team and let us know you wish to return your artwork.
-
Returning an ArtworkOnce you’ve let us know you’d like to return your artwork, we’ll arrange and pay for a courier to collect it. We’ll need a few things from you first: Pack the artwork securely in its original packaging. If you no longer have this to hand, use appropriate packaging to protect the artwork on its journey back to the artist. Send us the dimensions (H x W x L) and weight of the parcel. Tell us a convenient collection date so we can arrange a courier. We’ll send you a label to print and affix to the package. If you don’t have a printer, let us know as we have a couple of printer-free options too.
-
CancellationsIf you change your mind after placing your order, get in touch with us at manon@manon-design.com and we’ll do our best to cancel it before the artist ships. If your order is cancelled the same day it’s placed, your card will not be charged. If the artwork has already been shipped, we’ll try to divert it back to the artist. If this isn’t possible, once it’s been delivered we’ll have it collected and sent back to the artist. We’ll cover the return shipping but your original shipping will not be refunded.
-
RefundsWe’ll process your refund or credit once the artwork has been delivered and condition checked by the artist. Refunds back to your card will take 3-5 working days to appear in your account. If you’ve opted for credit to be added to your Manon Art account instead, this will be available for you to use immediately.
