Dariush
MOHAJER
Born in 1944
Profile & Bio
"The language of my paintings seeks to be borderless, universal. Hence these women with stylized features. The few depicted men, like warrior knights, also share the same face." ~Dariush Dariush Mohajer was Born in Tehran (Iran), he moved to Italy in 1972 where he lives, and works in Italy and California. He graduated in the Decorative Arts and Drawing in Tehran, and in 1978, received a degree in architecture in Florence. A painter, engraver and illustrator, Dariush loves the human form, couples, cats and animal art, and updates the aesthetic of Persian miniatures with a twist of contrived naivity. The women portrayed by Dariush, all have identical features, the same youthful face, imbued with great sensitivity. In other paintings, one meets Persian cats, tranquil and peaceful, inspiring serenity. His works, which until recently featured earthy, ochre hues and colours, now display deeper, shimmering tones. A painter, but also a lover of the rhythm of words, poetry and numerology, Dariush is the author of several books, notably on Guillaume Apollinaire, who inspires him enormously. Some fifteen years ago, he met Paule Mauviel, manager of the Le Croissant de Lune gallery in Landerneau, Brittany, and had the opportunity to show his delicate canvases on a permanent basis. He is also often exhibited at Galerie Courcelles Antiquités, 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
